Should I replace the transmission on my Civic before trading it in at the dealership or not?

I'm planning to trade in my 97 Civic this weekend for a 06 Rav4 or an 06 Element. The transmission on the Civic is running, but very faulty. Would it be better to get it fixed AND THEN trade it in? Or will dealerships take them as-is and $crew you in the process?|||Trade it in and dont tell them. They're gonna screw you over on the price of your new car so F them. I traded in a truck that had a blown head gasket. The water in the radiator looked like chocolate milk. They never noticed till I was out the door. Then they fixed it and sold it a couple of days later. Like I said before......F them.|||You always get screwed at a dealership. They claim to pay off what you owe but in fact inflate the price of the new car to accomodate this.

Don't bring the car in when you negotiate the trade. If you must then see if you can get it running well enough that the problem won't be as noticable. Even if you get less you will end up losing money if you pay to have it fixed first.

Have a freind go in the day before and negotiate a price without the trade for the same car. Then you can compare that to the price they quote you with your trade to see if you think it's fare or not.|||Ask the dealership what their conditions are for trade ins. Some places may mandate the car be in full working order and will have it checked out by a mechanic just to make sure. Otherwise- hell no! It will more likely then not cost you so much to replace the tranny that it defeats the purpose of the trade in.|||The more things you fix or add to your Civic, the more money you can get out of it.

If I was you, I would replace the transmission (and keep the paperwork to show how much you paid for it) and whatever else needs to be done with it, and then I would trade it in.

Dealerships would take thing as is and then fix them up and charge what they want for it. This way, if you know what needs to be fixed and then do it and everything else, then, you can see that money coming to you. i would do it!|||it won't make that much difference either way|||DEPENDS TAKE IT IN AND SEE WHAT THEY WILL GIVE U FOR IT.. IF IT NOT REAL NOTICEABLE. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. I REALLY DON'T THINK THAT THEY WOULD GIVE U WHAT IT COSTS TO HAVE A TRANSMISSION PUT IN|||No,you wont get anymore for it.
