Had a transmission flush. After reading about them I believe it was a bad idea. What can I do now?

I read that if your fluid is brown with black flakes (which mine was) then you should not flush b/c the transmission is "TOAST" and will actually work better with the old grimy fluid.

It said if you flush, the transmission will soon fail.

What can I do now. Can I have them drain it again and put some old transmission fluid in it?|||No you cant have the old fluid put back in. The reason you saw brown and black flakes was because you had burned the transmission oil. Those flakes were keeping were in all the worn places in the trans and keeping fluid out of places it shouldn't be. Your transmission was on the final leg anyway and you just put the final nail in the coffin, but who knows how long it will go be for it dies.

Transmission fluid need to be changed every 100000 miles or 2 years. When changing transmission fluid first check the oil that is in there for color and smell. If its still bright red and doesn't smell burnt then change it. If its brown and smell burnt the check the level add any if needed and LEAVE IT ALONE. Your trans is dieing and the shock of new fluid will kill it even faster.|||whats done is done, treat it with kid gloves or sell it|||The transmission fluid, when new, can act as a solvent, ungumming things that are gummed up, possibly causing an existing, but unnoticed, problem to rear its ugly head.

The key part of that statement is "existing , but unnoticed".

Transmission flushes are MAINTENANCE items and not meant to help an already sick unit.

And, no, don't put the old fluid back in it. The metal flakes in it will just cause more damage. if the flush helps, fine. But if it doesn't, its because you weren't diligent enough on your maintenance|||if it was that bad I think I would drop the transmission pan and put a new filter in it and add a bottle of lucas transmission fix as you fill it back up.|||No! It is never a bad idea to flush your transmission. It cleans all the gunk out of the transmission, valve body passages, transmission cooler and lines, and the torque convertor. Cleaner is always better.

You don't say what year your vehicle is, nor do you say how many miles it has on it. It may be that you have a worn out tranny, but the flush will not cause it to fail any sooner.
