Can a transmission from a 96 explorer be installed on a 98 explorer?

Hello, I need to know if an automatic transmission from a 1996 ford explorer 4.0L v6 will fit and work ok on a 1998 ford explorer 4.0L v6. Are those two drivetrains exacly the same or does anything differ? Thanks.|||no what you have is the 96 is a 4R55E 4 speed the 98 is a 5R55E and a 5 speed .the epc solenoids (electronic pressure control) are different along with the (tcc) torque converter clutch solenoid and the input and output speed sensors along with the wiring for it and the computer. if you need the trans for the 96 the latest you can go is to 97|||It depends on a couple of factors, as to being the same, or not. 1) are both rigs the same drive configuration? I.E. 2-wheel, or 4-wheel drive. 2) this may get a little more involved. Do the electrical harness match. Those aside, both being a 4.0 motor, the two should match at the bellhousing, and torque converter.
