Why does my transmission shift hard into reverse and drive?

I have a 2000 Mercury Sable with 132,000 miles on it, it still has the original engine, transmission, etc. Recently I've noticed that sometimes the transmission will shift hard (clunk) into reverse and drive from park. By the way, the transmission shifts gears just fine when in drive. Any ideas?|||you know something? i had a oldsmobile that did the same thing. it would clunk from park to drive and from drive to reverse. the GM garage said it was a bad motor mount or the bushing is worn in the shifter on the transmission. i said the heck with it and ended up selling it.|||well it coud be tim to change ur tranney flud and filter it will most likly stop the gerking in revirse and drive and will get u better fule mileg amd make ur car pull better|||Sounds like a high idle.|||Bad U joint for sure get fix asap or you could drop you drive shaft and cause you more damaged or you can you get hurt.|||worn joints will clonk and judder when going into gear on older cars but make sure the idle speed is correct, probably about 800rpm, any faster and the hard shift will be inevitable
