What is the consequences of overflow of transmission fluid?

I would like to buy a 2001 Chevy Impala (3.8L engine V6) with 93600 miles. It was found that there were overflow of transmission fluid after mechanic check. The color of transmission fluid seems deep brown. It is estimated that this overflow lasted about almost one year. But the owner did not know that.

This car drives very smoothly (gear change, accerleration, et al).

So I am wondering what the potential damage to the car (transmission system or other parts) in such situation? It is good or not to buy this vehicle?

Thanks. I appreciate all kind of information and suggestions.|||I'm assuming that u meant overfilled fluid level. If that is the case and your satisfied with the shifting function of the transmission i strongly recommend u have the trans.fluid flushed out and properly filled to specifications and you'll be good to go. If the trans. mission has been overfilled excessively then some of the damages it can cause is multiple leaks which can be costly. If your concern with the possibly leaks you can take it to a reputable auto shop or trans. specialist and have them assess the severity of the leak. It would be worth the money to have it inspected and find out later that the trans. leak repair is the same or more than the purchase of the car. Good luck! Hope this helps.|||Check the fluid when it gets good and hot and if theres alot of tiny bubbles, I would not buy it. A little overfilling will not harm it.
