How to clean a transmission filter on a 2004 Corolla?

I am planning on draining and replacing the transmission fluid on my 2004 Corolla. The guy at the dealership parts store said you don't normally replace the transmission fluid filter -- just clean it. Should I clean it or replace it? How do you clean one?|||no you don't never attempt to clean those you replace them,i never heard of anyone just cleaning those, that's not good for the transmission, they always get replaced, regardless of what, good luck.|||your welcome.

|||hey friend, listen to what iam saying!. you will have to drop the pan anyway to drain the fluid, why not just change the filter, while the pan is dropped, since the filter comes in the box along with the new gasket. i know what the guy is saying, some has a filter and some has a strainer, but if it was me, i would be changing everything, fluid, filter and gasket.|||since you are going to have it out, just replace it. cleaning it will only fool you. it will not remove some of the material that is stuck in that filter.|||never heard of cleaning one, its easily to replace filter and gasket, they come in a kit
