I have a 1997 Grand Marquis that was given to me and its way over the transmission flush and I dont want to flush it as it will cause more damage. What kind of Additive can I put in to make it shift better?|||By you saying "to make it shift better" I take it that it isn't shifting properly. First check the level of the tranny fluid when the car is at normal operating temp. If low add tranny fluid. If not low or adding to low did not help, drain the tranny, remove the tranny pan and change the filter, put pan on and add proper amount of proper type of fluid. Then if it still doesn't shift correctly or slips, you are in need of mechanical repair. No additive, regardless of what they claim, will repair a transmission.|||If the transmission is slipping, it's too late to add anything.
If it's not, remove the pan and clean it out thoroughly and replace the filter. Then take it to a service center and have the transmission fluid completely flushed and replaced with new fluid. There is specific equipment made to perform this service - it literally flushes out the old fluid while pumping in new fluid.
I don't recommend any additive - just a high quality transmission fluid.|||the only additive i would recomend is made by Lubeguard. It is a very hi quality and is very effective.
If the trans. isn't shifting properly, any additive may not help, you should try replacing the filter first. It is however possible that its just too far gone for anything but an overhaul.|||i agree with anthony and david---if the filter is dirty this will cause blockage and the trans pump can not pick up fluid fast enough to supply the needed amount for the trans to function properly---drain it and change the filter---does slippage happen at take off speed or during higher speeds say above 20 m.p.h----higher speed slippage is definately a sign of dirty fluid and filter|||don't have it flushed just pull the tranny pan off and change the filter in the tranny and clean the pan real good and put a new gasket on it and put the pan back on and fill the tranny with fluid, more than likely the filter is getting plugged up.|||The best thing you can do is have your transmission fluid and filter changed dont worry about causing more damage just as long as you change the filter to it will be fine|||change the tranny oil and filter(never flush it), then get some (BG TRANSMISSION SEALER AND CONDITIONER), that stuff is great, cost a little, but its worth it.|||brake fluid - a very, very small amount..{i didn't say that} heard it through the grapevine..
