How often should I change my transmission fluid?
People say that whenever I change my transmission fluid, that I should change the filter too. Is it expensive the replace the filter in the transmission?|||Your owners manual should reccommend when to have your transmission fluid changed. You should look at doing it every 30,000 miles or so. As for the filter, you must change the filter when you change the fluid, the filter is not expensive and should be included in the price of the change (confirm with mechanic). If you are over the 30,000 mile mark by like 50,000 miles you should smell the fluid to make sure it does not smell burnt, if the fluid is burnt you may not want to change the fluid at all. at that point your transmission is already ruined and it is only a matter of time before it breaks and changed the fluid will only make that happen faster. The new fluid will expand gaskets and wash away dirt that is keeping everything together. Check with the mechanic to see if the fluid is burnt.|||Every 50,000 miles. It will cost $70-$80.|||Depends on the type of vehicle you have. Use the recommended maintenance section of the owners manual as a guideline. DON'T LISTEN TO THE BUTTHEADS AT A QUICKIE CHANGE PLACE. They will just tell you you need to change everything ...Coolant, all filters, oil, trans, rear diff, etc|||every 50,000 miles of driving your vehicle.|||Dan, if it ant broke don't worry about it , However if you feel that you need to change the fluid take it to an expert and have it changed , it will ease your mind . they can get all the fluid out that you cannot , torque converter holds about 2-3 quarts it has to be removed also, good luck|||every 60, 000 miles or once a year, what ever comes first.
