Is it possible to put an auto stick transmission in a manual Beetle?

I have a 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle. It's a convertible and I love it! I am learning how to drive the manual transmission and having a bit of trouble. I have heard that Beetles had an auto stick transmission in the late 60's to early 70's. Is it possible to put one of these auto stick transmissions into this Beetle? How much work is involved in something like this?|||yeah its possible and pretty simple and straight-forward. the hardest part will be finding a good auto-stick transaxle since they are pretty hard to come by. i did the opposite swap about 1.5 years ago. you will need the vacuum canister, the tranny, the shifter and shift rod that goes to the auto-stick tranny, torque converter, pressure plate and flywheel, and auto-stick pedal cluster. the rest is a simple swap of the parts.|||It's more than possible with a big enough wallet to support the job.

It's all nuts and bolts so anything is possible. You might even be able to fit another transmission from another vehicle but that would require some fabrication and transfer kits if you could even find them.

Your biggest problems are finding the transmission (a good one at that) and the linkage.

Parts and labor, you're potentially looking at any where between $750-$1600. It really depends on the shop and how much you find the transmission and linkage for. Hope this helps!|||yes but it is going to cost you.... more than what its worth! you should just learn stick
